Trenton To Host Youth Circus Festival This Summer

The circus is coming to town this summer with pint-sized clowns, acrobats, jugglers and unicyclists.

Trenton Circus Squad, a nonprofit circus that started in 2015, was chosen to host the biennial American Youth Circus Festival Aug. 16 to 20.

“It’s a testament to Trenton’s location, quality caterers and affordability that AYCO chose us as hosts,” executive director Zoe Brookes said. “I hope our hosting means that more youth from social-justice oriented programs like ours will be inspired and able to attend the festival.”

Trenton Circus Squad was formed to bring together kids from Trenton and surrounding areas and use circus arts to promote service, build self-esteem and strengthen the fabric of the community.

Organizers say the weeklong event will draw about 400 young circus performers and their coaches from across the country. There will be four days of workshop sessions and performances for ages 8 through 21.

The festival is being held at Roebling Wire Works. Passes cost $450 for youth and $250 for adults. Youth passes purchased before April 1 cost $350.

Trenton residents, however, can purchase reduced-price tickets to the festival, including a special one-day option for Aug. 19.

Free introductory circus workshops will be held Aug. 17, 18 and 19 from 2:15 to 3:45 p.m.
